Deer People!

Long-time Deer Lake resident Mary Strother has an exhibit of her recent work at the Macrostie Art Center in downtown Grand Rapids. The show will be open during the month of February, 2012.

After four years of collecting what washed up on the shores of Deer Lake, I took the items into the studio and began photographing them.

The process starts with a medium format camera, printed in a dark room on silver gelatin paper. Later toned with polytoner and finally handpainted.

These are the images on display through February at the MacRostie Center in Grand Rapids Minnesota. Images are 15"x18"

OurAugust 12 meeting featured Mary Shideler, "The Kayak Lady," who described her adventures exploring the lakes of Itasca County by kayak. It is her personal goal to paddle every one of the more than 1000 lakes, and so far the count is over 800. Good Luck Mary!
