The concert at Hiawatha was a big success with over 60 folks in attendance for a beautiful bevy of popular song arrangements for classical String Quartet. The final number, Over the Rainbow, brought most of us to tears.
STRINGenius STRINGenius Quartet:
Jill Olson Moser, violin (special guest, not pictured)
Allison Ostrander, violin
Rebecca Arons, cello
Susan Janda, viola
All members of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, Allison Ostrander (violin), Elise Meichels Parker (violin), Susan Janda (viola) and Rebecca Arons (cello), are versatile artists that enjoy vibrant, diverse careers in the Twin Cities. Together and individually, they champion living composers, embrace new partnerships, and search out opportunities to play with all kinds of artists from jazz musicians to ballet dancers, rock stars to singer-songwriters.
Outside of their roles as members of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, Allison, Elise, Susan and Rebecca can be found creating on the Minnesota Orchestra stage, as well as in the Orpheum, the State Theater, the Guthrie Theater and the recording studio amongst others. Collectively, they have collaborated with artists ranging from Prince to Andrea Bocelli and enjoy working with living composers and songwriters across musical genres. In addition to participating in the workshop and world premiere of Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night in 2012 with Minnesota Opera, members of STRINGenius have recently worked with multi-Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Maria Schneider, as well as local arranger and composer Adi Yeshaya in premieres of new works. This summer they may be heard performing with St. Croix Valley Opera, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and the Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós. S |
